Description

The IT Projects & Change Manager will be responsible for leading the delivery of IT projects and managing the firm's change management process, ensuring technology initiatives are successfully planned, executed, and embedded with minimal disruption to the business. This dual role combines hands-on project management with ownership of the IT change framework, providing structure, governance, and communication to support the firm's strategic technology roadmap.

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the IT Projects & Change Manager will work closely with Exec Team and heads of department, IT teams, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of technology projects that enhance operational efficiency, innovation, and competitive advantage.

Working hours: Monday to Friday between the hours of 09:00 - 17:15.

Office Location: Derby head office with onsite support as required at other locations.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management

Lead the planning and delivery of IT projects, ensuring alignment with business priorities, budgets, and timelines.
Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders.
Manage project risks, issues, dependencies, and resource allocation.
Provide clear project documentation and reporting to senior stakeholders.
Work closely with IT teams, vendors, and business users to ensure successful outcomes.
Ensure user adoption and training plans are built into project delivery.

Change Management

Own and manage the firm's IT Change Management framework, aligned with ITIL best practice.
Chair and coordinate the Change Advisory Board (CAB), ensuring all changes are assessed, approved, and communicated.
Conduct risk and impact assessments for proposed changes to minimise service disruption.
Maintain and publish the forward schedule of change (FSC).
Ensure compliance with ISO27001, GDPR, and professional regulatory obligations.
Track and report on change volumes, success rates, and lessons learned.

Continuous Improvement & Stakeholder Management

Act as a key link between IT and the wider business, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
Drive adoption of new systems, processes, and technologies through structured change management.
Identify opportunities to improve project and change delivery, embedding best practice across the IT team.
Build and maintain strong relationships with lawyers, support teams, and senior stakeholders.

Skills, Knowledge And Expertise

Key Competencies

Significant experience in IT project management and/or IT change management, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment.
Strong understanding of ITIL processes, particularly Change and Release Management.
Demonstrable experience managing multiple IT projects from initiation to delivery.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
Strong organisational and planning skills, with attention to detail and a structured approach.
Experience with ITSM and project management tools (e.g., ServiceNow, MS Project, Jira, or similar).
Understanding of information security, compliance, and risk management in a legal or regulated environment.

Desirable Qualifications

ITIL Foundation (v3 or v4) - essential; Practitioner/Intermediate desirable.
Project management certification (PRINCE2, PMP, AgilePM, or equivalent).
Experience in a UK law firm or professional services organisation.
Knowledge of legal-specific systems (e.g., case management systems, practice management systems, document management systems).
