About The Role
Our R&D engineers are tasked with designing and developing implant products for the Active Implantable Systems (AIS) group. This includes technologies that monitor, support diagnosis and treat irregular heart rhythms, heart failure, and sudden cardiac arrest. AIS provides devices and therapies for a patient's entire continuum of care, from diagnostic to treatment. This division strives to innovate and create a paradigm shift that can solve unmet clinical needs and change what is possible for patients.

Your Responsibilities Will Include
Apply object-oriented programming skills (e.g., Python) to support software development for diagnostic and therapeutic technologies
Assist in integrating AI and machine learning models into device functionality or data analysis workflows
Support mechatronic system design, including automation and process control for manufacturing prototypes
Collaborate with cross-functional teams--including engineering, clinical, and regulatory--to align technical solutions with patient care goals
Participate in technical reviews, documentation, and testing to ensure product safety, reliability, and compliance
Conduct research and feasibility studies to explore new technologies and address unmet clinical needs
Communicate findings and progress clearly across diverse teams, adapting technical language for varied audiences
Demonstrate initiative in learning new tools, platforms, and methodologies relevant to medical device innovation
Required Qualifications
Current rising senior (grad dates between Dec 2026 - May 2027), graduating senior (May 2026 grad) continuing on to grad school, or current grad student. Must have at least one semester of school left post-internship to qualify.
Working towards a degree in Mechatronics, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering
Must be able to start internship on May 18th or 26th, 2026 and work for 12 weeks
Must have reliable transportation to/from work.
Experience using object-oriented programming languages such as Python
Experience with AI/Machine Learning in academic or work settings
Experience with Mechatronics (the design and implementation of modern automated systems for manufacturing and process control)
Preferred Qualifications
Medical industry experience
Masters or Ph.D. students preferred, will consider skilled undergraduate students with applicable experience
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse, cross-functional teams
Passion to learn new technologies and find new solutions
