Job Specifications

We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to support a major digital transformation initiative within one of Belgium’s most prominent banking institutions.

Logistics:

Position: Freelance Senior Java Developer
Duration: 12-month rolling contract (extensions expected)
Location: Brussels (Hybrid - 2 days on-site per week)
Start Date: Mid-November
Day Rate: €(Competitive & Negotiable)
Languages: English (Dutch or French is a plus)

Key Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and maintain robust backend services using Java (Spring Framework)
Translate functional requirements into clean, high-quality, maintainable code
Build and secure RESTful APIs and integrate with third-party systems
Evolve and migrate legacy systems into modern Java-based platforms
Collaborate closely with analysts, testers, and fellow developers in an Agile squad
Drive performance, reliability, and security through unit testing, code reviews, and refactoring
Participate in CI/CD pipelines and help shape DevOps best practices
Contribute to a culture of clean code, pair programming, and continuous improvement

Ideal Candidate:

4+ years of professional experience in Java backend development
Strong grasp of Object-Oriented Programming, SOLID principles, and domain-driven design
Experience with Spring, Maven, Oracle DB, and REST APIs
Familiarity with tools like Git, Jenkins, SonarQube, Fortify, and NexusIQ
Proactive communicator who enjoys collaborative problem-solving in Agile teams
Committed to writing readable, testable, and maintainable code (TDD experience is a plus)
Experience with code reviews, pair programming, and Scrum methodologies
Strong sense of ownership and eagerness to contribute to team success

Desirable:

Experience with modern CI/CD and DevSecOps pipelines
Background in regulated sectors such as banking, insurance, or telecom
Knowledge of containerization, cloud deployments, or large-scale integrations
Exposure to event-driven systems, although not mandatory
