TMX Markets consist of the Derivatives and Equities Trading businesses of the TMX Group.The TMX Markets Insights squad is a collaborative team with a mandate to unlock the power of data generated by our exchange assets to empower internal Sales, Product, and Operations teams across TMX Group's trading venues. The team provides automation, reporting and Business Intelligence for our stakeholders.
Sitting uniquely at the intersection of business and technology, we work directly with stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver data-driven solutions that drive efficiency, automation, business intelligence, and informed decision-making. We operate on a modern cloud-native technology stack, backed by a sophisticated and experienced technology organization encompassing Cloud, Data, and DevOps expertise.
As a Solutions Engineer within the TMX Markets Insights Squad, you will be instrumental in tackling complex business challenges by exploring technical possibilities and building tangible blueprints for our developers. You will leverage your strong analytical skills, technical curiosity, and exceptional communication abilities to ensure our technology initiatives directly address business objectives and deliver measurable value. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to impactful projects, work with cutting-edge technologies, and collaborate closely with a variety of stakeholders across our organization.

Key Responsibilities
Solution Exploration, Design, and Definition: Investigate and evaluate diverse technical options and approaches to effectively address identified business problems. Develop clear and concise conceptual solutions, outlining key components, system integrations, and data flows. Translate these high-level concepts into detailed specifications and technical designs that provide a clear roadmap for our developers.
Proof of Concept (PoC) Development: Independently build and execute proof-of-concept applications and prototypes to rigorously validate proposed solutions, assess their technical feasibility, and demonstrate their potential business value.
Problem Triage and Analysis: Investigate job failures, production issues, and bug reports to efficiently identify the underlying root cause and redirect them to the appropriate developers or support team for timely resolution.
Collaboration with Developers: Partner closely with software developers, data engineers, and other technical team members throughout the development lifecycle to ensure a shared understanding of the proposed solutions, provide ongoing guidance, and address any technical questions.
Testing and Operational Support: Take ownership of the testing and validation of completed user stories and features to guarantee they meet the defined functional and technical requirements. Provide operational support and troubleshooting assistance as needed.
Continuous Improvement: Proactively stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data management and analysis to identify opportunities for innovation and process optimization.
Must Haves
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
5+ years of experience in a technical role or as a business analyst/systems analyst type role in a technical domain
Proven experience in researching, evaluating, and recommending various technical solutions and technologies.
Hands-on experience working with cloud technology stacks (preferably AWS), containerization technologies (Kubernetes), and big data tooling (such as EMR, Presto, Snowflake).
Proficiency in understanding/writing SQL queries and developing scripts in Python to support proof-of-concept develo
