Job Specifications

We're looking for curious, driven engineering students to join our team for a 12–14 week summer internship. As a Software Engineer Intern at vRad, you won't just shadow—you'll contribute. You'll collaborate with senior engineers to design and build real features across our database, server, web, and desktop applications that power the nation's largest teleradiology practice.

This is hands-on work with meaningful impact. The code you write will be deployed to production—helping radiologists read millions of medical images for hospitals across all 50 states.

About vRad

vRad (Virtual Radiologic) is the nation's leading teleradiology provider. Our 500+ radiologists read for 2,000+ healthcare facilities, reading millions of patient studies annually. Our proprietary platform—built in-house over 20+ years with 25 patents—integrates AI that's been in clinical production since 2015. We're an 8-time Star Tribune Top Workplace, and we're growing fast.

What You'll Do

Develop software within an agile team environment for a technology-driven healthcare business
Translate business and user requirements into working software specifications
Participate in estimating, planning, and scheduling development tasks
Contribute to the design of software systems, user interfaces, APIs, and core components
Write code in C#, HTML, JavaScript, Python, and SQL using standard practices
Perform unit, integration, and system-level testing
Collaborate with our SQA team on integration and system testing
Participate in code reviews and learn from experienced engineers

What We're Looking For

A curious mindset—you ask questions, dig into problems, and enjoy learning new technologies
Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science or a related field
Strong communication skills—you can explain your thinking clearly, both in writing and conversation
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

Nice to Have

Experience with two or more of the following:

C# (highly preferred), C++, or Java
HTML and JavaScript
SQL (Microsoft SQL Server or other relational databases)
Python
Desktop UI frameworks (WinForms, WPF)
REST APIs (WebAPI preferred)
Mobile development (.NET MAUI)
MVC or MVVM patterns
Unit and integration testing (NUnit preferred)

Familiarity with any of these tools is a plus:

Microsoft Visual Studio
SQL Server Management Studio
IIS or similar web servers

Your Summer Experience

This isn't an internship where you sit in a corner. You'll be part of the team from day one, with plenty of opportunities to learn, connect, and have fun along the way:

Mentorship: You'll be paired with a dedicated mentor and have regular opportunities to work alongside senior engineers and leadership
Weekly Lunch & Learns: Grow your skills with sessions led by team members across the company
Cross-team networking: Connect with people beyond your immediate team to see how different parts of the business work together
Social events: Weekly game days over lunch, happy hours, and team outings throughout the summer
Tech Week Hackathon: Cap off your summer by participating in our end-of-summer hackathon—a chance to collaborate, build something creative, and showcase your work
