Headquartered in Toronto, the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) is responsible for investing in new infrastructure projects. The CIB’s mission is to work with provincial, territorial, municipal, federal, Indigenous and private sector investor partners to transform the way infrastructure is planned, financed and delivered in Canada.
Reporting to the Head, Credit Risk and Fiscal Impact, the Director, Credit Risk, will focus on infrastructure and corporate/hybrid project finance credit risk assessment, including revenue risk, availability-based infrastructure financing models and corporate-style financing supporting discrete infrastructure projects. The Director, Credit Risk, is responsible for reviewing transaction documentation and financial models, ensuring robust credit risk assessments across infrastructure and corporate/hybrid project finance.
The Director, Credit Risk, requires a strategic mindset and the ability to influence investment decisions at every stage, from intake to financial close and ongoing monitoring. Your oversight will help to shape and evaluate the risk profile of major infrastructure investments, while your cross-functional collaboration will ensure alignment across the organization.
Your responsibilities:
Review internal and external transaction documentation and financial models to perform credit risk assessments on individual investments
Perform and/or review independent scenario and sensitivity analysis, including PPP and infrastructure transactions subject to revenue risk
Provide recommendations on risk mitigation strategies, demonstrating accountability and the ability to make informed, high-impact decisions in the assessment of a diverse range of infrastructure investments, including traditional debt, project equity, and equity-like projects
Supervise and mentor Associates, Credit Risk, including providing ongoing training, performance feedback and fostering a positive, supportive work environment; the Director, Credit Risk, is expected to actively develop junior team members, demonstrating a commitment to talent growth and team cohesion
Review accuracy and completeness of annual reviews and their related internal risk rating appropriateness
Report on credit-related information to the Head, Credit Risk and Fiscal Impact, on a regular basis with respect to the investments portfolio and any market or sector developments impacting the portfolio
Maintain deep knowledge of industry dynamics, trends and global infrastructure financing models. Staying ahead of market developments and sharing insights positions the Director, Credit Risk, as a thought leader within the organization
Liaise with the investments team and other areas of the CIB including finance and accounting, as required, with respect to the investment portfolio from the risk perspective
Your ideal profile:
Degree in finance, accounting, economics or equivalent experience; CFA, MBA, highly desirable
Minimum 7–10 years of credit analysis experience, ideally at a bank, regulated institution or MDB/IFIs
Demonstrated leadership of working across departments, facilitating communication and collaboration to support organizational goals
Experience with infrastructure asset class, PPPs, project finance, preferably in any of the CIB’s priority sectors
Expertise in lending, investments and risk assessment demonstrating market best practices
Experience in credit risk rating methodologies, including infrastructure and project finance
Strong analytical skills and ability to summarize complex structures and related risks in a clear and concise manner
Strong modelling skills and experience in using Excel, Word, PowerPoint and similar industry software
Bilingualism English/French is considered a strong asset
