Systems Engineer II – Advanced Audio / AR & VR Research

Location: Cambridge (Bourn Quarter – near Cambourne)

Contract: 11 Months | Salary: £71K

The Opportunity:

You’ll be working with a global leader in immersive technology, inside a state-of-the-art audio research lab helping shape the future of AR/VR.

This is a hands-on engineering role in real experimental environments, including anechoic chambers, large-scale acoustic spaces, and prototype capture systems.

You’ll play a key role in enabling real-world data collection that drives next-generation technology.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Set up and configure prototype devices, audio systems, and capture environments
Manage device networks, switches, and lab infrastructure
Run and support complex multimodal data collection sessions
Troubleshoot across hardware, software, and networking layers
Improve and optimise systems to make data collection more efficient and scalable

You are the person ensuring these systems work in reality, not just in design.

What You Need:

Core Experience

2+ years working across hardware, firmware, and software systems
Python or scripting experience
Linux administration
Networking (configuration, troubleshooting, infrastructure)
Systems testing, validation, and debugging

Nice to Have

Motion tracking systems
Automated data collection environments
Network switch configuration
Android / ADB tools
Automation or deployment experience

Ideal Profile

Hands-on, practical engineer
Strong generalist rather than overly specialised
High attention to detail
Takes ownership and works proactively
Strong communication skills in a collaborative lab environment

Background

Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering preferred
Equivalent industry experience also considered

Environment

This is a fully onsite role (5 days per week) due to the nature of working with physical systems, devices, and lab infrastructure.
