Job Description

Division: Group Business Solutions (GBS)

Within GBS, you will join the Settlement roadmap team where you can play a key role in the development and maintenance of settlement and asset transfer related applications for Euroclear Bank. We are looking for an experienced Application Engineer (IBM Mainframe Platform).

Role

Undertakes complex system designs and may contribute to supervising and validating the development process, involving assigned colleagues for detailed analysis and coding tasks as needed.
Ensures that proposed designs for new or modified applications align with business and operational requirements, and are compatible with the application domain architecture as well as enterprise-wide architectural and design guidelines. Designs should be reviewed and validated with the Application Architect and Enterprise Architecture.
Translates business requirements and operational constraints into a structured and efficient set of functional and data models. Acts as a bridge between business and IT, ensuring that technical solutions meet both functional and non-functional requirements.
Participates in the detailed design process, defining system scope and objectives for assigned projects. Develops or modifies procedures to solve complex problems, considering system capacity, performance constraints, and desired outcomes.
Reviews the quality of program specifications and documentation produced by team members involved in implementing the design.
May produce specifications for complex or critical applications and assess the quality of coding, testing, and debugging activities.
Contributes to the improvement of application design standards and supports the evolution of design practices, including the development and reuse of patterns, frameworks, and tools.
May occasionally:
Contribute to application testing activities.
Guide and support people who are in charge of fixing problems and making enhancements to application software running in production.
Possesses comprehensive knowledge of all phases of application design, along with a solid understanding of development and testing processes.
Demonstrates strong insight into the business or functional area for which the application is designed.
May provide coaching and guidance to junior IT professionals.
Analyzes and implements complex software applications with a high degree of autonomy.
Collaborates constructively with stakeholders involved in projects or maintenance activities related to their area of expertise (e.g., reviewing business requirements, supporting build and integration efforts).
Maintains design deliverables with the same level of discipline and quality throughout the lifecycle, up to deployment.
Engages with IT Infrastructure teams to deliver clear and complete information regarding the application's technical context and physical topology.
Supports testing teams during the various testing phases of projects.
Participates in periodic daylight and overnight production support activities.

Work outside of business hours is sometimes required as launches in production are generally carried out after 5PM or on Saturday or Sunday as well as watch duty during nights and weekends.

Qualifications

Soft & Technical Skills Required

Several years of experience as developer and functional designer
Deep expertise in IBM Mainframe :
knowledge of the following tools/languages: PLI, DB2, MQ, CICS
Expertise in Java or .Net development stacks as well as a good command of APIs, Integration mechanisms and Data technologies in general. In particular:
Experience with private cloud technologies in general and Azure in particular are a plus.
Experience with event-driven architecture principles in general, and its implementation with Kafka in particular are a plus.
Experience with Linux Java development stack.
Very good analytical skills, with the ability to navigate complexity across systems.
Solution oriented mindset
Proactivity in identifying the need for change and proposing solutions that are innovative and make the difference in improving the efficiency (quality and cost) of our IT software delivery.
Flexibility to quickly adapt in case of unexpected change of priority
