Job Specifications

Role Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Infrastructure Engineer to join our internal IS Engineering team and collaborate with our contracted support supplier, on a contract basis. The primary focus of this role is to enhance our monitoring capabilities by implementing clear dashboards, setting appropriate thresholds, and establishing effective alerting mechanisms. The successful candidate will work extensively with Darktrace and other monitoring platforms to assess, implement, and test monitoring triggers, alerting systems, false alert detection, and dashboarding.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the internal IS Engineering team and contracted support supplier to mature monitoring capabilities
Design and implement clear dashboards to provide real-time visibility into system performance and security
Establish appropriate thresholds and alerting mechanisms to ensure timely detection and response to potential issues
Work with Darktrace and other monitoring platforms to assess, implement, and test monitoring triggers, alerting systems, and false alert detection
Continuously improve monitoring processes to reduce false alerts and enhance the accuracy of alerting systems
Conduct regular testing and validation of monitoring tools to ensure their effectiveness and reliability
Provide expertise in security monitoring and alerting, ensuring compliance with best practices and industry standards
Maintain accurate documentation of monitoring configurations, thresholds, and alerting mechanisms
Collaborate with other IT teams to integrate monitoring capabilities into broader IT infrastructure and security strategies
Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in monitoring technologies and security practices

Requirements:

Proven experience in infrastructure engineering, with a focus on monitoring and alerting systems
Expertise in using Darktrace and other monitoring platforms
Strong knowledge of security monitoring and alerting best practices
Ability to assess, implement, and test monitoring triggers, alerting systems, and false alert detection
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
SC Cleared and a British National
Ability to be onsite in Stevenage 5 days per week

Preferred Qualifications:

Relevant certifications in infrastructure engineering or security monitoring
Experience working in a high-security environment
Familiarity with ITIL best practices and service management processes
